This section will focus on introducing five major types of Japanese carpentry tools, namely: saws, chisels, planes, knives and sharpening stones. The tools below have all been designated “Banshu-Miki-Uchihamono,” a government certified title given to top- quality traditionally crafted tools. These Banshu tools are prized by professional Japanese craftsmen nationwide and have increasingly won the devotion of fine woodworkers from around the world. In the following sections, each blacksmith and craftsperson will present his or her Banshu certified tools and specialty products.
